A commercial vehicle inspection ended in the driver’s arrest after an Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) officer discovered several pounds of drugs and a handgun.
Around 7 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, an AZDPS Canine District trooper conducted an inspection on a commercial vehicle along I-17
During the inspection, the trooper noted indicators of criminal activity.
The cab of the truck was searched.
The trooper found approximately 7.5 pounds of fentanyl powder and a 9mm handgun inside the cab of the commercial vehicle.
The driver was arrested and booked into the Yavapai County Jail.
Charges against the driver include possession and transportation of a narcotic drug for sale, and possession of a weapon during a drug offense.
The Canine District at AZDPS is a criminal interdiction unit that works to enforce state laws by targeting major criminal offenses on state highways.
